Sankey and Fiskars rescue ransacked garden

When vandals ransacked the school gardens at St Mary's Church of England Primary in Nottingham parents, pupils and teachers were distraught. This touched the heart of Sankey, who together with Fiskars, donated garden tools and equipment to make good the damage.

Andy Fawkes, Deputy Head Teacher at St Mary's, said: "When the children discovered the theft of their gardening tools, greenhouse and their seedlings strew all over the allotment they were devastated. The allotment had been used to improve behaviour at lunchtimes, offering the children somewhere to channel their energies. We had also planned a big expansion of the growing area so it can be used during science teaching and after-school clubs. We were delighted to receive a call from Fiskars and Sankey offering us some new equipment. Thanks to their very generous donations we will be able to restart our growing programme, carry out our planned expansion and use real hands-on, practical experiences to teach science and healthy living."

To help the children get back the gardening bug Sankey, who has been based in Nottingham for 155 years, has given a propagator so that seeds can be grown in preparation for next year's harvest. To decorate the garden Sankey has provided durable and hardwearing pots and containers. Being plastic, they can easily be lifted and moved around the garden.
